SPOILERS I'm sure the majority of us have seen the Phantom Mentace. Remember Darth Maul? He killed Qui-Gon Jinn and was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi. He, like Boba Fett, lived to see another day after the battle of Naboo. Awhile into Palpatine's Reign, Prophets of the Darkside revived Maul from the pit he was in, and got his body together. He was sent out to destroy Darth Vader, with the knowledge that he was no true sith. If he successfully destroyed Vader, he would go for Palpatine next. Darth Maul and Darth Vader got into a malicious saber battle, then Maul stabbed Vader through the chest. But Vader took out the lightsaber and used it to quickly kill Maul. Palpatine had learned of what the Prophets of the Darkside had done, and killed. This battle between Maul and Vader was shortly before "A New Hope." There are two known non-canical appearances by Maul in the Star Wars Galaxy. In one of them Maul comes back to life with a cyborg body and fights Obi-Wan on Tatioone. (See a video at www.ugoplayer.com/animation/starwarsoldwounds.html)The other non-canon appearance was where Luke battled Maul through some sort of hologram. (I know little about this fight.) Just a fact for you. mikeyman

There's more about Maul here: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Maul#Doppelg.C3.A4nger_on_Kalakar_VII own the Dark Horse comic in which Maul and Vader battle, and what no article I could find bothers to mention is that Palpatine suggests to Vader the image was a Force hallucination of sorts. Palpatine says he sent Vader the vision to test his loyalty as well as those who challenged him before Maul's appearance.
